Flash Player 10 - Astro
October 25th, 2007
Someone kindly videoed a portion of the Abobe MAX conference in Chicago - where they were exhibiting a sneak peak of what is in the next generation player to come out. Some really cool features seem to be in there, and ones that makes sense to be too. They seem to be working on their own answer to PaperVision by adding a z axis, although - no where a near where PaperVsion is now - but definitely delivering for the high demand of 3D environments.
Another cool feature that they have created is the ability to float text over many text box’s, just as if you were in InDesign, a solution that will bring a new layout to flash text through out the world.
They talk about some other stuff too - check out the video:

Attaching movieclip class without library symbol
July 23rd, 2007
I have just been searching on how to link a class to a movieClip created with ‘createEmptyMovieCLip’ - which at first, seems like there is no answer, but i stumble accross this little nugget which is perfect for OOP component development which you dont want to rely on any assets what so ever.
Hers a little snippet taken from swfoo.com

Actor.as:
class Actor extends MovieClip {
static var id = (id=”__Packages.Actor”)+
(Object.registerClass(id,Actor)?”":”");
public function Actor() {
trace(”Action!”);
}
}
To test:
import Actor;
attachMovie(Actor.id, “_mc”, 1);
works like a charm!
Flex Webcam thinggy part II
July 13th, 2007
Ok, so we had some complaints from people about version one. They couldn’t really see what it could be used for, so we strapped it to the excelent component from Quietly Scheming and hey presto! Check it out here…
p.s. you need a webcam to make it work!!! Failing that, just plug in a camcorder to your computer, and change your webcam settings within flash. For macs with built in isight, right click on flash, go to settings, select the camera settings and select USB.

Adobe Max in Barcelona
July 3rd, 2007
Roll up, roll up, last chance to pre-register for Adobe Max in Barcelona! It’s free and means 15% off the final cost, although we’re still not sure how much it will be. All we do know is that it’ll be a Flex fest, and all the big guns from Adobe will be there.

Google Gears
May 31st, 2007
So this seems to be the final push towards the whole world moving to our browser. We saw this coming for a while, but it is a major step to the death of the OS. A browser that can store app data ofline is essential to the transition. But what is more important in long run is browser stability. Soon there wil be a time when you will always be online, no matter where you are, so the stability of the platform has to be assured. My Macbook never crashes. My Safari crashes at least once a week. This is why Google will develop their own browser in time, somthing that will be secure, stable and work offline. This will be the nail in the OS coffin.
FOWD
April 19th, 2007
Sorry it’s ben a while, won’t happen again! We went down to the FOWD yesterday. While it was good to see what was going on, some of it was a waste of time. We walked out of the Microsoft Seminar, entitled “working with brands” or somthing like that. What it ended up being was a sales pitch about Microsoft products and how we will all love them. Please, who are they trying to fool. Never going to happen. Adobe were out in full force pushing CS3 and flex which was good to see. One of the guys there mentioned a Flex event in Barcelona in October that has’nt been anounced yet, so keep a look out. Big Spaceship were there, an inspration of how a studio should be. Poke were witty and lightened the tone of the whole thing (not hard when you come after microsoft).
