MafuNet Beta
August 19th, 2007
As you can tell from the lack of blogging recently we have been a bit snowed under the last few weeks.
We have a new member of the team, Javier, who has been working hard on our Version 4 of Mafunet (yes, we really have built it 4 times now) our Flex based Content Management System. The project is still under wraps, but we will be releasing a beta soon. If you would like to sign up to our Beta testing please email us at beta@mafunet.com.
You can find our MafuNet site here.
Flex in the Pub
July 24th, 2007
We are organising our first “Flex in the Pub” gathering next week (Wednesday 1st August) so if Flex get your gonads going come down to meet everyone. Nothing formal, just a get together in The Lamb… Check out our Meetup page for more details. We’re getting the first round, and there’s some free stuff from Adobe (thanks Ben!).
Flex Webcam thinggy part II
July 13th, 2007
Ok, so we had some complaints from people about version one. They couldn’t really see what it could be used for, so we strapped it to the excelent component from Quietly Scheming and hey presto! Check it out here…
p.s. you need a webcam to make it work!!! Failing that, just plug in a camcorder to your computer, and change your webcam settings within flash. For macs with built in isight, right click on flash, go to settings, select the camera settings and select USB.

Shameless Recruitment post.

10 Reasons why Silverlight will fail (in the short term).
July 12th, 2007
1. It’s very uncool. Since when has a Microsoft product been exciting? And their touch technology doesn’t count, they nicked it off Jeff Han.
2. Something else to learn, please, I’ll have a brain overload if I try and take anything else on board.
3. It’s not open source. Flex is. End of story.
4. Flash diehards will never switch.
5. Java diehards definitely won’t switch.
6. I can’t install it.
7. Adobe have all the best people in the industry working for them.
8. It’s not pre-installed on any OS.
9. It has no distribution channel/penetration.
10. You can’t develop on a mac, you have to develop on .net which costs $$$$ (surprise surprise)!
And one reason why it might not fail over time: cash… Microsoft will pump billions into this until it works and they don’t care if they loose money on it for 10 years, just like they are doing with the XBox.
Flex Wiki
July 5th, 2007
We have installed a Flex Wiki (Flexipedia) so please share what you can on there. Currently it is pretty empty (in fact, it’s completely empty) but we will try and get as much on there as soon as we can.
London Flex User Group now active
July 4th, 2007
We have now set up the London Flex User Group, check out the site promise we’ll change the look of it so it isn’t like this one! If you are in London and using flex please register on the site.
Adobe Max in Barcelona
July 3rd, 2007
Roll up, roll up, last chance to pre-register for Adobe Max in Barcelona! It’s free and means 15% off the final cost, although we’re still not sure how much it will be. All we do know is that it’ll be a Flex fest, and all the big guns from Adobe will be there.

James Ward Flex Lecture
June 23rd, 2007
Sorry this is a bit late getting on here, it was recorded almost 2 months ago but i think it is still valid. I hope we can get James over to the UK to talk at some point, he has some really nice stuff to show. You can find his blog here. More proof for my theory that Flex will take off with the help of the Java, not the Flash community.
