FOWA Expo
October 9th, 2008
I’m at FOWA today courtesy of Adobe. Still not really sure what to think. I came with a hope of meeting some developers, ended up meeting some old friends and making some new contacts. Just sat through a talk about Cappuccino, talking about Object-J etc. Nice stuff and it’ll be interesting to see how it will run, but I don’t think it’s for us. There’s a big presence from Micro$oft, still flogging Shilvershite. Saw their “table”, which is basically a big iPhone. And please Carson, take your hat off indoors, you look like a plonker!
Flex Camp London open for registration!
August 8th, 2008
We are giving a hand running Flex Camp London 08, check it out:
Flex Camp London 08 is a FREE, community-run event for everyone interested in Adobe Flex! Whether you’re just getting started with Flex or you’re an expert, Flex Camp aims to provide something for you.
We’ve lined up some of the most experienced Flex developers in the UK who will share their knowledge on everything from creating your first application, connecting to data, creating components and development best practices through to selecting an application framework for larger projects.
Flex Camp will also include a panel discussion, provide an opportunity for you to show off what you’re building in the Show & Tell open session and let you meet up with other developers to talk about Flex. We’ve also got some great prizes to give-away throughout the day, including a ticket to Adobe MAX in Milan, Adobe software and Flex training courses from Academy Class.
Flex Camp is on August 28th, 2-8pm at Conway Hall, London WC1 - register today at http://ria.meetup.com…
This is a FREE event, but you must be registered to attend and names will be taken at the door.
See you there!
Adobe releases Flex 3 and Air

We have all been using for them for ages, but Adobe has finally released Flex 3 and Air. This is a huge release for the company, and solidifies their position at the forefront of the ever changing RIA landscape. Get them now!!!
Emak Mafu hosts the Flex London User Group meeting with Serge Jespers and James Ward
January 26th, 2008
Firstly a big thankyou to everyone involved, especially Adobe for helping with the venue and the free beer! The event went down really well, we got just under 200 people coming along, a lot of them from other platforms. The best question of the night in the Q&A was “How do I convince my clients to use Flex and not Ajax?”. Looks like it is all going in the right direction. The next big event like this will be in April, but there will be 2 smaller events between now and then.
Flash Player 10 - Astro
October 25th, 2007
Someone kindly videoed a portion of the Abobe MAX conference in Chicago - where they were exhibiting a sneak peak of what is in the next generation player to come out. Some really cool features seem to be in there, and ones that makes sense to be too. They seem to be working on their own answer to PaperVision by adding a z axis, although - no where a near where PaperVsion is now - but definitely delivering for the high demand of 3D environments.
Another cool feature that they have created is the ability to float text over many text box’s, just as if you were in InDesign, a solution that will bring a new layout to flash text through out the world.
They talk about some other stuff too - check out the video:
Flex in the Pub
July 24th, 2007
We are organising our first “Flex in the Pub” gathering next week (Wednesday 1st August) so if Flex get your gonads going come down to meet everyone. Nothing formal, just a get together in The Lamb… Check out our Meetup page for more details. We’re getting the first round, and there’s some free stuff from Adobe (thanks Ben!).
Chinwag’s Big Summer 07 party CHAOS!
July 6th, 2007
Its the day after the night before… we’ve had 11 emails each, totaling a massive 55 - constantly informing us of this amazing event to grace the Imperial College Union in South Ken, so we thought we’d check out the hype. I’ll leave my video to explain why we ended up 3 pints down with a fish ‘n chips chaser in the local boozer….
In the video you see two queues funneling into a bottle neck entrance - these people have supposedly registered to, ’skip the queues!’, as one of the many emails cheerfully proposed. Upon asking a fellow queue buddy how long he had been wasting his life here for - he replied, we a monotone drone, “1 hour”, and he wasn’t even at the front!
for this, Emak Mafu left for a better life in the pub
(Apologies for the ’special’ guy staring at the camera at the beginning - we hope it didn’t scare anyones children )
Adobe Max in Barcelona
July 3rd, 2007
Roll up, roll up, last chance to pre-register for Adobe Max in Barcelona! It’s free and means 15% off the final cost, although we’re still not sure how much it will be. All we do know is that it’ll be a Flex fest, and all the big guns from Adobe will be there.

Hackday London 07
June 16th, 2007
I’m not sure how this one slipped throught the net, we might try and go, but it’s a bit last minute. Hackday seems to be a great idea, a gathering of minds to talk about mashups etc. You can see more about the event here.
